Paint Island & Sea Country. Paint the tide that moves through us

Welcome to Wukaluwikiwayna, Sea Country of the Paredareme Nation. This island holds deep memory — of canoes crossing moonlit waters, of families moving with tide and wind, of stories held in the shoreline. Here, there is no divide between land and sea. For the Palawa people, water is pathway, ancestor and belonging.

This curated collection of 8 illustrated cards invites you to paint with reverence for the stories and spirits that live across this island. Printed on 216gsm premium watercolour paper, each 5"x7" card is designed for use with our handmade, earth-derived paints — pigments that honour the landscapes they reflect.

From the quietly powerful crayfish (nupina), to the curious wombat (probelattenner), the island’s distinct form, and the delicate forty-spotted pardalote — these images invite you into deeper noticing. Let them be your way of listening. Your way of returning to story, to Sea Country, and to the tide that still moves through us.

Paint slowly. Paint mindfully. Paint with Country.

Kit Includes:
• 8 illustrated paintable cards on 216gsm paper
• A curated palette of our handmade watercolours in a reusable travel tin
• Fine-tipped water-fillable brush
• All beautifully housed in a travel-friendly eco-conscious box

Painters,  Storytellers, Custodians of Colour

At Palawa Pigments, we create more than just artist-grade paints—we craft a connection to Country, culture, and creativity.

Founded by artists Andrew and Jacquelyn Mansell, Palawa Pigments is a Tasmanian Aboriginal-owned family business rooted in the rich traditions of ochre and natural pigment use. Inspired by the landscapes of Trouwerner/Lutruwita (Tasmania) and beyond, we honour the raw beauty of the earth by transforming natural oragnics & minerals into handmade, high-quality watercolours and art materials.

Through our journey, we have learned not just to create with colour, but to listen—to the land, to the Old People, to the stories held in earth and sky.

Palawa Pigments was born from this journey. A journey of walking with Country, understanding its rhythms, and learning the craft of paint-making not just as a skill, but as a conversation.

The first time we held raw pigment in our hands, we understood: this was not just colour—this was memory, this was story, this was spirit. To turn it into paint was not an act of making, but of honouring.

Now, we share that with others. Through Palawa Pigments, we offer more than paints—we offer a way to connect. A way to slow down, to create with intention, to see your world in a different light and to understand that every stroke carries something deeper than pigment.

Because when you paint with the land, you don’t just create—you remember.

To paint is to remember and honour the past, to listen to the present, and to be one with the land itself.

Our paints are more than just colour; they are a connection, a way to honour story, spirit, and place.

Paint with Country. Paint with story. Paint with Palawa Pigments

Acknowledgement of Country

This is Palawa Country. It always was, and always will be.

We pay respect to the Punnerlerpanna people, the creators of these northern shores, the great fishing culture of the north whose Country we live in. Though they did not survive colonisation, their presence is felt in the land, in the tides, in the stories that still echo here.

We honour our Palawa community past and present across Trouwerner/Lutruwita (Tasmania) and beyond, those who have carried knowledge forward, protected Country, and upheld the responsibilities passed down through generations.

To know this land is to know its true custodians.
