The Spotted Quoll Studio believes one of the most important links in the employment process is that between industry and the education system, its one of the many things we are very passionate about. My goal was always to provide flexible employment and training in Tasmania especially for woman in a dying trade - manufacturing!
Yes, it been a hard slog, but I am sure you will agree it’s well overdue in Australia. Making our own products and becoming more self-sufficient with much less reliance on off-shore "cheap and nasty" mass produced fashion and general goods should be everyone’s goal. As a small business we strive every day to manufacture with natural fibres, ethical local production and zero waste and we believe its all worth fighting for, we may be small be we are leaders!
So, we are proud to say we have partnered with Tafe Tas to create an opportunity for Fashion Design students to get much needed industry experience outside the classroom, it’s a symbiotic relationship.
Danielle took part in the design experience last year and out of all the high standard applications she won with the outstanding Meadow dress.
Meadow Meaning: a piece of grassland, especially one used for hay
The Meadow dress is the result of an exciting collaboration between industry and education. Danielle, as mentioned, was the design winner from all students that participated from the Launceston, Tafe Campus. They all submitted a collection to The SQ Studio as part of their final submission for Cert. IV in Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising.
A word from the Danielle:
"With my Meadow dress I wanted to incorporate some volume and airiness into the design, which was inspired by the crisp fresh air here in Tassie!
The side panels add a unique design feature, with the dress being made in all natural fibres like organic cottons, denim or hemp, the dress is easy to wear but with timeless elegance and a range of applications. Once my design was chosen, I drafted the pattern with the guidance of Sally Lowe our Production Manager and now even more exciting I'm involved in machining the dress as I’m now working at The Spotted Quoll Studio factory since completing Tafe.
Thank you to TasTafe Fashion & The Spotted Quoll team involved, I am so happy with the design and a dream come true that my dress is now in production!"
We have just released our first drop of our new Hessian Pony Collection A/W 2022 where the Meadow dress is featured.
Our new Hessian Pony Collection is easy wear staples at heart, with pockets galore and natural organic cottons creating a bounty of textures, paired with inky swaying organic denims, rusty gold top stitching and printed organic hemp/linen blends.
